The Bishop Ireton girls' lacrosse team defeated Our Lady of Good Counsel by a convincing 12-4 margin to win its third Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title in the last four years (2014, 2016, 2017). It was the first time the Cardinals (16-5 overall) were the top seed and had the opportunity to wear their home white uniforms in a championship game.
The dominant performance took place in front of a large crowd at the University of Maryland's Ludwig Field in College Park on Monday, May 8. The game was also broadcast live online by the Monumental Sports Network.
A rock-solid defense led by senior goalie Amelia Cole (University of Denver commit) held the Falcons to a single goal in the first half and only 8 total shots on goal the entire game. Cole had 4 key saves and 3 groundballs.
The patient offense was led by junior Madison Mote (Notre Dame) with 4 goals and 1 assist; senior Kayla Duperrouzel (Yale) with 4 goals; and senior Kate Carney (Cincinnati) with 2 goals and 1 assist. Despite being double- and triple-teamed at times, freshman Reilly Casey's (North Carolina) 5 assists were also key factors in Ireton's ultimately victorious efforts against their long-time WCAC rivals.
