Bishop Ireton, Gonzaga win WCAC lacrosse championships

Bishop Ireton senior Kelly Larkin's first attempt at a game-winning goal Monday night hit the back of the net right as an official's whistle blew. A Good Counsel defender had creeped into her shooting space, and her free position shot would need to be taken again. The contingent of Cardinals fans roared their disapproval, the tension of this Washington Catholic Athletic Conference girls' lacrosse championship game too much for this late reversal.

But Larkin, recently named the league's player of the year, noticed a slight adjustment by the Falcons' defense during that pause in the action. "In that moment," she said, "I knew it was better for me to pass."
