At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the Maret softball team trailed St. John's by six runs entering the seventh inning of the D.C. State Athletic Association championship game.

Eighteen minutes later, Maret Coach Madi Maldonado, drenched in Gatorade on the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy's field in Southeast Washington, turned to her assistant coaches and asked, "How did we win that game?"
