Gonzaga wins seventh WCAC golf championship in eight years

Shooting even par for 18 holes is a lofty goal for most golfers, whether it be on a full-length layout or a putt-putt setup. Place that round in the context of a tournament environment — with a conference title and school pride on the line — and the accomplishment borders on inconceivable.

Gonzaga didn't just produce one even-par golfer in Wednesday's Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship at Northwest Golf Course in Silver Spring. Five Gonzaga golfers combined for an even-par team total of 360, besting runner-up DeMatha by 44 shots. Gonzaga Athletic Director Joe Reyda believed the mark set a conference record.

"It's kind of crazy," Gonzaga senior Pudge Williams said. "We're definitely deeper and more experienced than last year, though. It just feels good to get the win."
