Near the beginning of the season, when the St. John's baseball team learned the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference wouldn't conduct a playoff tournament because of the coronavirus pandemic, Coach Mark Gibbs didn't want his players' mind-set to change.

Most years, the priority at St. John's is to claim the WCAC title, but with the D.C. State Athletic Association holding a tournament, Gibbs told the Cadets they could still end this season with a celebration.
