The strikeouts on DeMatha's side of the score book stood out the most. Senior Harold Cortijo posted eight of them in a 4-0 victory for No. 1 Riverdale Baptist on Friday at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie. A sparkling fastball that cut the edges off home plate and a power slider that attacked left-handers kept DeMatha uncomfortable and helped Cortijo's professional stock with a handful of major league scouts in attendance.
"We try to teach our kids to have a perspective on the game," Riverdale Baptist Coach Ryan Terrell said. "He's grown as a competitor. He's really come to enjoy the moment."
