St. John’s wins first WCAC title since 2004

St. John’s wins first WCAC title since 2004

With St. John's one point away from capturing the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship Sunday, junior Rachel Richardson was determined to deliver the final kill.

"I was hungry. I wanted it," Richardson said. "I told my setter before [Holy Cross] served the ball to find me."

St. John's setter Maya Boykin put the ball in the right position for Richardson, the WCAC player of the year, to rise up and hit the ball past a pair of Holy Cross defenders. St. John's students flooded the court at Catholic University to celebrate the Cadets' 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) victory over the Tartans and their first conference title since 2004.
