On the rare occasion that Holy Cross outside hitter Jade Parchment mishits a ball or makes a mistake, there is no talking necessary. She doesn't need a pep talk or a pick-me-up to regain her form. All she needs is a second to lock eyes with her teammate Riley, the Tartans' libero. Sisters can communicate that way.
The upper echelons of high school volleyball are marked by sister duos, playing together not only on the varsity team but also in the starting lineup. Three of the top squads in the Washington area, including Holy Cross, regularly start a pair of sisters, and a number of other teams around the region have sisters as either starters or consistent contributors.
