St. John's junior Seamus Selmi knows some opponents don't like his style of wrestling. He doesn't mind.

Saturday night at the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships at Good Counsel, the 170-pounder stood tall on the first-place podium, with Gonzaga's Daniel Kerns, the third-place finisher, to his left. St. Mary's Ryken senior Kyle Winegardner, the runner-up, was absent, to Selmi's relief.

"I was a little worried he might come out there and try and fight me again," Selmi said.

Selmi's win by forfeit over Winegardner helped St. John's pull away from St. Mary's Ryken, which was trailing by three points entering the match. The No. 10 Cadets won their second straight WCAC title, crowning four individual champions and scoring 188 points, but Winegardner made it clear afterward he wouldn't forget what happened in Olney.
