As a boys’ lacrosse conference, the WCAC ‘has really made leaps and bounds’

No sooner had the final seconds ticked away in Gonzaga's game against St. John's on Friday than did the Eagles' student section spill onto the field.

More than 50 boys, most shirtless, raced across the turf from the section in the stands where they had spent the game banging a drum, trash talking the Cadets and roaring for each Gonzaga goal in the 11-8 win to join the Eagles players jumping in celebration.

All were elated to have won the rematch of last year's Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament championship game. And once he hollered for the students to clear the field and went through the postgame handshake line, Gonzaga Coach Casey O'Neill couldn't hide his joy, either.
