As the few seconds before halftime of No. 2 DeMatha's 80-59 victory over No. 4 Eleanor Roosevelt ticked away Tuesday night in Hyattsville, Stags guard Earl Timberlake stood near midcourt, threading the ball between his legs and stalling.
"Wait until five [seconds]," Coach Mike Jones called to him.
When five arrived, Jones said, "Go" — freeing the senior playmaker to begin a quick game of one-on-one. Instead, Timberlake took one dribble to his right and then fired the ball to the corner, where a teammate had an open look at a three-pointer.
