No. 1 DeMatha beats No. 4 Rock Creek Christian to win Maryland private school championship

Hunter Dickinson stood all alone underneath the basket, not a single defender within arm's length. He caught a rocket pass to the chest before rising up to throw down an emphatic two-handed slam.

Dickinson's wide-open dunk Monday night in Upper Marlboro capped a critical run for No. 1 DeMatha to start the fourth quarter of the Maryland private school championship against No. 4 Rock Creek Christian. The spurt helped seal the Stags' 64-58 win and their second title of the season.

DeMatha was coming off its first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship since 2011, which it earned with a victory over Gonzaga on Feb. 26

"A little different style, more physical for us today," DeMatha Coach Mike Jones said. "I thought we adjusted well enough, obviously, but we got a taste of probably college basketball, how physical it would be."
