Gonzaga runs away from St. John’s in second half, advances to WCAC semifinals

Gonzaga Senior Myles Dread was a force all year for the Eagles.

Gonzaga senior guard Myles Dread stood at the half-court line, clapping his hands. It was a bit early for a celebration as the first game of WCAC tournament weekend was only halfway over. But Dread's team needed some energy. St. John's, the Eagles' quarterfinal opponent, had come out with startling pace and athleticism in the first half, out-hustling Gonzaga to take a five-point halftime lead.

So Dread clapped his hands and pushed up on his man well before the inbounds passer was set, showing his team, his coach and his fans that Gonzaga was going to bring its own energy in the second half. The Eagles' weekend wasn't going to end Saturday.

"It's not something I always have to take upon myself, but I felt that I could do a good job of it," Dread said. "I was trying to get people hyped up."
