Nothing to do this weekend? Here is a few options.....

So, you say you have nothing to do this weekend?  Well, you are in luck.  The WCAC has some tremendous matchups that will get your intensity to an all-time high and get you ready for the big finale for Fall Sports, the WCAC Football Championship Game at University of Maryland on November 19th.

Friday night gets you going with a fierce football matchup between DeMatha Catholic and Good Counsel.  These two teams combined, have won the past 13 WCAC Football Championships.  To add further excitement, the game will also be played on ESPNU which has both schools foaming at the mouth to show the nation why the WCAC is one of the best football conferences in the United States.  The game is at 8pm at Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland.

Maybe Friday night football isn't for you.  Ok then, on Saturday one of the oldest matchups in High School Football history will take place.  The Gonzaga Eagles and St. John's College Cadets will square off at 3pm at Paint Branch High School.  If this game didn't bring enough energy, the winner will host the first round of the WCAC Football Playoffs the following week when they will play again for the chance to play for a Football Championship.  Remember last year, an undefeated Eagles marched in and lost a shocker to the Cadets.

If that weren't enough, there are three…YES THREE WCAC Championship matches that will be played on Saturday evening.  The Volleyball Championship will be played at St. John's College High School and will begin at 6pm.  Bishop O'Connell (#1 seed) will face Holy Cross (#2 seed) in a matchup that promises not to disappoint.  During the year, Bishop O'Connell swept the season series (3-1 and 3-2 wins), and they are trying to keep Holy Cross from winning their 5th consecutive WCAC Title.  There will be a $5.00 admission fee to attend this event.

In addition to Volleyball, the WCAC Soccer Championships will be decided.  The Girl's game begins at 5:30pm with Paul VI (#2 seed) against St. John's College (#1 seed).  During the regulars season St. John's won 2-1.  Coming into this matchup, St. John's has won 6 games in a row (scoring 18 goals in those 6 games), while Paul VI has won 7 games in a row (only allowing 2 goals during those 7 games).  A classic offense versus defense battle.

To wrap up this amazing weekend, the WCAC Boy's Championship will be played after the Girl's.  DeMatha Catholic will play their long-time rival, the Gonzaga Eagles.  The Stags are the #1 seed in the tournament and their only blemish was a recent tie against Bishop O'Connell.  Gonzaga is undefeated this year on the road (in the WCAC) with 5 wins.  During the year, DeMatha defeated Gonzaga in a very close and intense battle.  While DeMatha is seeking their 4th straight championship, the two teams have dominated the Championship over the past 15+ years.

Both Soccer games will be played at the Soccerplex in Boyds, Maryland and will requires an entry fee of $10.00 to watch one or both games.
